Help with group rite

topic posted Thu, September 27, 2007 - 3:48 PM by  Rajani
Hi there!
So my friends have been requesting me to allow them to participate in my full moon rites so yesterday we had a group rite. I basically did my usual thing and they helped purify the circle and chant and they all cant wait until the next full moon. What else can I do to involve the rest of the group? It's a small group so far, just 4 people, 5 including myself. I mean, the priestess casts the circle, calls the Guardians and invokes the Goddess. Then we chanted and meditated. What else is there that the participants other than the priestess can do? I've racked my brains and come up empty. Help!

In my circle attendants call the quarters, close the quarters, cense and asperge.
One attendant for each quarter. Two different attendants for censing and asperging.

Consider also adding a guardian, to make sure the circle holds. However, you likely want someone experienced in this role.

Couple of cool things you can do is ribbon work (or rope work though ribbons work better) where each participant takes a ribbon length which is enough to go from the edge of the circle to the center and back. You say you have four or five. If you loop you ribbons in the centerĀ  around one another (like when you tried to make a knot with a rubber band) and hold both ends you'll form a web of sorts with each person touching only their ribbon.

The next part is generally easier when you are sitting but I have done it like it was a maypole before. Either way you begin stroking the cord or ribbon starting from closest to the body towards the center. Don't move forward though just stroke the ribbon in rhythm together as far as comfortable. The rhythm naturally speeds up i have found and at the hieght the priestess/priest/host/or monkey if thats your thing slams the central web down into the floor dramatically thus ending this portion of the magicks.

If you have four then each person should put the ribbon down on their right. This should pie the circle into four from the center. When we did it this way we gave an elemental significance to each pie and the person inside acted as a sort of ambassador. When we did it as five we sat cross-legged facing the central web and bound our right hand in the ribbons end and placed it in our laps giving the inside of the circle a five pointed star and each of us was a point upon it.

Whatever the case we entered into a weird automatic dialogue/trance/role-playing session. As I said before with the four the ambassadors entered into a lively debate regarding their alchemical relations to one another, Sometimes we just sat and meditated together. The person in earth meditating upon that for instance.

In the five person circles we actually found it easier (with the sense that we were each points on the same spirit) to work through other spell ideas or general "coven" type things. Perhaps it was a good forum but it did, for a while, become sort of a meeting of types. People felt connected, I think, as a magick group and it really lent its own flavor.

I'm sure it'll be different for others but when I saw your post I figured tis might help spark the creativeness of your request.

Wish you well with whatever you and yours fancy.

Write a invocation to each of the 4 directions as I do not know if you invoke the Gods, Elements or animal forms I cant say just what, then hand a card to each person and after you called down the Guardians have them each speak their part...
